Box Score (PDF)PORTLAND, Ore. --- Sophomore RHP Kevin Baker tossed six quality innings but the UC Riverside Highlanders held the Portland Pilots to just two hits to take the final game of the series, 4-1, Sunday at Joe Etzel Field.
UC Riverside (5-7) held the Pilots (8-4) scoreless until the 7th inning when freshman Matt Kelly roped a two out single to right field to score the pinch runner Jason Rosen from second.
Colby Schultz provided the Highlanders with an offensive spark in the third inning. With one out and a runner on first, Schultz drove the first pitch from sophomore Kevin Baker over the right field wall for a two-run homer. Thomas Walker added a two-run home run of his own in the ninth inning.
Baker (0-2) turned in his longest outing of the year with 6.0 quality innings, fanning six while walking one.
Tyler Musgrave (2-0) was too sharp on the other side of the ball, however. The UC Riverside righty allowed just one hit in his 6.0 innings of work. He did walk four while striking out five.
Portland returns to action on Tuesday with the final game of the 9-game home stand. The Pilots welcome Seattle U to The Bluff for a 4:00 PM game before embarking on the longest road trip of the season.
