PORTLAND, Ore. --- Forward Jojuan Carrington (Dublin, Calif./Dublin HS/Diablo Valley), who averaged a double-double in her one year at Diablo Valley College, has committed to the Pilots and will transfer to the University of Portland, announced head coach Cheryl Sorenson. Carrington will be eligible immediately for the Pilots, and she'll enter next year as a sophomore.
"Jojuan is a player that will make a difference for us right away," Sorenson said. "She is active on the glass and takes pride on the defensive end. She has a strong offensive skill set, and as hard as she works, she will develop a well-rounded game during her career at Portland."
The 6-foot-1 Carrington started all 32 games during her freshman season with the Vikings, averaging a team-best 16.2 points and 10.0 rebounds. She was named to the 2015-16 Northern California All-State Team and the Big 8 All-Conference Team, and she helped the Vikings reach the CCCAA North Regional Elite Eight. Carrington recorded 25 points and 13 rebounds in the Sweet 16, she scored a season-best 28 points at Sacramento City, and she corralled a season-best 18 boards twice.
Carrington also shot 45.0 from the field and went 117-for-152 (77.0 percent) from the foul line.
As a senior at Dublin High School, Carrington helped the Lady Gaels win their first North Coast Section title since 1988, before claiming a NorCal Division II runner-up finish. A four-year varsity letterwinner at Dublin, she averaged 10.9 points and 9.1 rebounds per contest. Carrington also earned All-Metro Honors as a senior, and was named to the NorCalPreps.com Top-40, coming in at No. 18 on the list.
Carrington joins a Portland recruiting class that already includes Kate Andersen (Portland, Ore./Jesuit HS) and Keala Quinlan (Papakolea, Hawai'i/Roosevelt HS), who both signed a National Letter of Intent in November.
