A familiar face is saying goodbye as long-time Associate Athletic Director Buzz Stroud is ending his remarkable run at the University of Portland, retiring after 32 years on The Bluff. Thursday marks his final official day roaming the halls of the UP Athletic Department.

Buzz has held a plethora of roles and responsibilities while at Portland, including oversight of the Sports Medicine, Intramural and Recreation and Athletic Performance units of the athletic department as well as oversight of all University athletics facilities and operations. He also oversees the game management of the on-campus athletic events and serves as the sport administrator for the Pilot cross country and track & field teams, as well as the men's soccer program.

In December, Stroud was honored with the University of Portland's Miltner Award, which is awarded to the employee who has been of exemplary and outstanding service to the University.
Since 2009 he has served as the chair of the University's Athletic Hall of Fame Selection Committee and has produced and directed the Athletic Hall of Fame induction banquet since its inception in 1990.
Throughout his tenure, Buzz has served as the department's Compliance Coordinator (1990-03) and Marketing Director, where he was responsible for advertising, sponsorship sales, basketball season ticket sales, broadcast production and game management. He served as Tournament Director for various West Coast Conference and NCAA Championship events hosted by the Pilots.

From 2005-08 he was a member of the NCAA Women's Soccer Championships Committee during which time he chaired the West Region Advisory Committee.

A 1971 graduate of Linfield, with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communications, Stroud received his Master of Arts in History from the University of Portland in 2002.
