Men's Cross Country

Pilots Run Strong at Pre Nats and Bronco Invite, Portland Men Claim First Place

LOUISVILLE, Ky./ SUNNYVALE, Calif. --- The Portland Pilots men's and women's cross country teams competed at two different meets this morning, the Bronco Invite and NCAA Pre Nationals. The Portland men's B team took first at the Bronco Invite at Baylands Regional Park, while the Portland women's finished 16th among another challenging field.
 
Three of the Portland men placed in the top-25 at the Bronco Invite, led by freshman Riley Osen and sophomore Tristan Peloquin who finished in fourth (23:44.9) and fifth (23:47.4). Sophomore Cobie Chavez-Killinger (23:57.1) crossed the line just behind Osen and Peloquin in 11th, followed by sophomore Joe Horen (24:08.9) in 14th. Freshman Henry Hayes rounded out the squad as the fifth finisher for Portland with a time of 24:39.4. This was Osen's first official race wearing the Pilot jersey, and Peloquin, Chavez-Killinger, and Horen each recorded prs.
 
The Portland women's team also competed this morning at NCAA Pre Nationals, placing 16th among over 40 teams and against several ranked competitors. Freshman Jasmijn Lau led the Pilots with an 18th place finish crossing the line in 20:14.4. Junior Taryn Rawlings and sophomore Aoibhe Richardson came in as the second and third runner for Portland with times of 20:43.8 and 21:09.1. Courtney Cox and Susan Van Weperen then rounded out the top five for Portland finishing in 21:49.6 and 22:15.0.
 
"This was a big learning experience for our team," said head coach Ian Solof. "Considering we only have one runner who has been to this meet before, the team ran solid. Jasmijn did really well and Stella impressed me a lot in the unseeded race."
 
Both teams will next be in action on Oct 27. at the WCC Championships in Oakland, Calif.
