PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland junior transfer Lisa-Marie Kaempf led a balanced offensive attack with a game-high 19 points off the bench as the Pilots pulled away from the Willamette Bearcats to win 72-52 in a non-conference women's basketball game played on Sunday night at the Chiles Center. Sophomore Kate Andersen added 13 points for the Pilots, who open the season 2-0.

Kaempf missed only two shots on the night, going 6-for-7 from both the field and the free throw line, and she made her only attempt from beyond the three-point arc. It's the second straight game in double figures for Andersen, who scored 11 points during Portland's season-opening rout of Hawai'i on Friday night.

10 different Pilots scored against the Bearcats, and Julie Spencer and Ashley Gray just missed double digits, finishing with nine and eight points, respectively. Portland was dominant in the paint, claiming a sizable 46-22 advantage on the glass, and senior Sara Zaragoza collected a game-high eight rebounds.

Willamette hung around in the first quarter, but the Pilots began to pull away in the second period. Freshman Maddie Muhlheim hit two three-pointers during the frame to help Portland build an 11-point lead, and Andersen hit all five of her free throws to register 11 points by the half.

Kaempf caught fire in the second half as Portland took control of the game. 12 of her 19 points came during the third quarter as the Pilots' lead swelled to 23 points. Portland went mostly with its bench in the final frame and the Bearcats never got closer than 18 points the rest of the way.

The Pilots shot better than 50 percent for most of the night before settling at 43.9 percent. They needed just three three-pointers, and they combined for 19 free throws. Portland also had an impressive 20 assists on their 25 field goals, with senior Rachelle Owens matching a career-high with six dimes.

Willamette shot just 29.6 percent from the field, and 10 of the Bearcats' 16 field goals were three-pointers.

For the second straight game the Pilots held a decisive edge in points in the paint, out-scoring the Bearcats 38-8 down low. Portland's bench also had their second consecutive solid showing, combining for 38 points.

The Pilots next conclude their three-game homestand to open the year against Utah Valley at the Chiles Center on Tuesday night. Tip-off is set for 5 p.m., and the game is part of a UP double header as the men will follow with a contest against Walla Walla.
