PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots eclipsed the century mark for the first time in five seasons in a 112-65 victory over the Multnomah Lions Thursday night before 1,281 fans at the Chiles Center. All 10 active players on the Portland roster scored, led by 21 points and eight rebounds by sophomore guard Franklin Porter.
The Pilots (3-4) had four players reach double figures and senior center Philipp Hartwich recorded his third double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds in just 16 minutes of action.
Sophomore guard Josh McSwiggan added 18 points and freshman guard Marcus Shaver Jr. finished with 17 points.
Portland previously scored in triple digits during a 114-110 triple overtime thriller against BYU at the Chiles Center on Jan. 23, 2014. Earlier that year the Pilots defeated UC Davis 100-82 on Nov. 8, 2013, marking the last time Portland reached the mark in regulation.
Multnomah got off to a fast start by drilling three straight three-pointers to gain a 9-5 lead early, but Portland overwhelmed the Lions from that point forward. The Pilots used a 24-2 run to create separation and the margin would blossom to 56-30 at the half.
The Pilot bench got extended minutes late as freshman walk-on Brian Smith ignited the team bench with a three-pointer and strong finish in the lane in the closing minutes.
Portland shot a blistering 60 percent overall and made 10-of-30 three-pointers on the night. The Pilots have recorded 10 or more triples in all but one game this season.
Multnomah struggled on the inside against the size of the Pilots. Portland gained a 52-32 rebounding edge and 60-14 margin for points in the paint.
Ben Grandle led the Lions with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Trey Fountain and Brett Blackstock added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Portland will next have its first true road test of the season as the Pilots visit Boise State on Sunday at 1 p.m. (PT). The Broncos (6-1) face Oregon in Eugene on Friday night.
