PORTLAND, Ore. --- Senior Sara Zaragoza recorded her first career double-double and five Pilots scored in double figures as Portland cruised past the Warner Pacific Knights 95-59 in a non-conference women's basketball game played on Friday night at the Chiles Center. Zaragoza scored a career-best 15 points to go along with a game-high 12 rebounds.
Â
The Pilots (4-4) looked to Zaragoza early as the center nearly had a double-double by the half. She scored eight points in the first quarter to allow the home team to jump ahead by 10. The Pilots pushed their lead to 18 points when freshman Maddie Muhlheim buried a three-pointer mid-way through the second quarter.
Â
The Knights did climb within 11 by the break, but Portland pulled away in the third frame with the help of an offensive outburst by Kate Andersen. The sophomore guard converted a lay-up before knocking down a three-pointer as the Pilots opened the third with nine unanswered points.
Â
Portland's run would grow, and moments later Andersen drilled another one from beyond the arc to make it a 66-38 game with 3:37 left in the period. The Pilots then took a 33-point advantage into the fourth quarter en route to the win.
Â
15 of Andersen's career-high 16 points came in the second half. Freshman Josie Matz scored a career-best 17 points off of the Portland bench, while Muhlheim and junior Darian Slaga also reached double-digits with 14 and 11 points, respectively. Slaga handed out a career-high six assists, while Matz collected six boards and dished four assists, both career-highs.
Â
The Pilots shot a red-hot 51.5 percent from the floor and held a decisive 52-29 edge on the glass. Portland also combined for eight three-pointers, out-scored the Knights 44-19 and converted 21 Warner Pacific turnovers into 33 points.
Â
Warner Pacific's Emily Peters, Darbi Pink, Grace Prom, and Michaela Pin each scored 11 points, and the Knights hit 13 three's on the night. Portland's defense held their visitors to just 31.3 percent shooting.
Â
The Pilots next host the Boise State Broncos on Sunday, with tip-off scheduled for 2 p.m. As part of Portland's annual Holiday Toy Drive, fans can bring a new, unwrapped present to the game and receive two tickets for the price of one. The game will also be followed by the Pilots' annual Mother-Daughter clinic.
