PORTLAND, Ore. --- After a scoreless first three innings, the Gonzaga Bulldogs broke it open with four runs in the fourth and two more in the fifth before claiming a 13-0 win over the Portland Pilots in the opener of a three-game West Coast Conference series played on a picture perfect Friday night at Joe Etzel Field. Gonzaga added four more runs in the eighth inning before capping the scoring with a three-run ninth.

Eli Morgan (7-1) was solid on the mound for the Bulldogs (22-14, 12-4 WCC), working 8.0 scoreless innings. He allowed only three hits, while striking out an impressive 15 Pilots (8-28-1, 4-12 WCC). Reliever Nate Odahl pitched a perfect ninth.

Portland's Tate Budnick (1-8) is saddled with the loss after opening with those three clean innings. His final line included six runs, five earned, on eight hits in 5.0 innings. Reliever Jake Hawken was charged with four runs, while Christian Peters let in the final three.

Gonzaga spread the offense around as 10 different Bulldogs recorded a hit. Jeff Bohling was 3-for-4 with two RBI's, while Branson Trube and Gunnar Schubert also knocked in two runs. Bohling hit a solo home run in the top of the eighth inning, his first long fly of the year.

The Pilots did threaten to get on the board first when Kevin Wade produced a single and Cody Hawken followed with a double to lead off the bottom of the second. Dutton Elske would soon load the bases with a walk, but Morgan ended the inning and the threat with a fly out to right field.

The second game is set to begin at 6 p.m. on Saturday night at Joe Etzel Field.
