LARAMIE, Wyo. --- The Portland Pilots volleyball team swept their second match of the Rumble in the Rockies Tournament earlier this morning against the South Dakota at the UniWyo Sports Complex . The Pilots continued to channel their momentum from last night's sweep against Abilene Christian by topping the Cyotes with set scores of 25-17, 25-23, and 25-17.

The Portland Pilots (2-0) volleyball team took an early lead in the first set going on several different point runs to start out ahead 12-6. South Dakota (0-2) then battled back to try and match the Pilots with a pair of kills and an ace, but Portland kept the momentum going to make it 20-11. Junior Reghan Pukis and Hannah Troutman then combined for kills to bring the Pilots to the final point, but South Dakota responded with a late run to bring the set to 24-17. Freshman Kassidy Naone then finished up the set with the last kill to put the Pilots ahead 1-0.

The Cyotes and Pilots started off the second set even before the Pilots would take an initial three-point lead at 12-9 led by sophomore Katie Barker and Troutman. Portland then extended the lead with an ace from senior Morgan Robinson and a kill from Pukis, but the Cyotes answered with a few point runs of their own to spark a comeback. At the last point of the set, South Dakota fought to hold the Pilots with a four-point run, but Troutman took control to finish the set with a kill, taking the set at 25-23.

The third set again started off neck and neck, with both teams battling to take the lead, before the Pilots pushed ahead at 14-11 with kills from Pukis and an ace from freshman Carey Williams. Senior Sarah Savoca then added three kills of her own and an ace to combat opposing points from the Cyotes to keep the Pilots ahead at 19-15. Sophomore Cali Thompson then added a kill and Troutman an ace to bring the set to its final points. Pukis then stepped up to record the final two kills to send the Pilots over the Coyotes 25-17.

Pukis and Troutman led the Pilots each with 10 kills. Thompson produced a double-double in assists and digs with 30 and 11, respectively.

The Pilots will play their final match of the Rumble in the Rockies tournament later this evening at 6 p.m., against tournament host Wyoming.
