Box Score PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots were unable to fight their way back into their match against Pacific, falling in three sets on Saturday afternoon in the Chiles Center. The Tigers won by scores of 25-20, 25-18, and 25-19.
Junior Katie Barker led the Pilots in kills with 10, hitting .412% along with four total blocks, while junior Cali Thompson led the team in assists and digs with 28 and eight, respectively.
The Pilots (18-9, 6-9) begun the match battling for position with the Tigers (12-14, 7-8), until Pacific went on a 7-0 run including four of sophomore Kaitlyn Lines match-leading 18 kills to extend their first set lead to 11-6. Both teams would go on to exchange runs, including a 3-0 Pilot run featuring kills by senior Reghan Pukis and junior Shayla Hoeft. It wouldn't be enough, as the Tigers would go on to take the first set at 25-20.
The Tigers would continue their trend of scoring early, going on a few 3-0 runs to begin the second set and take the lead at 9-5. Not to be outdone, the Pilots would climb their way back into the set, eventually taking the lead at 14-13 after a pair of kills by sophomore Liz Reich. After a Pacific timeout, the Tigers immediately went on a 9-2 run to regain the lead, eventually taking the set at 25-18.
Riding their momentum, the Tigers took the third set lead early, and would hold onto it throughout the set. The Pilots wouldn't go out quite, going on a late 8-4 run capitalized by a pair of kills by Barker. The Tigers would weather the storm, going on to win the third set at 25-19.
The Pilots return to the road next week, playing Loyola Marymount on Thursday, November 15
th, and Pepperdine on Saturday, November 17
th.
