SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- Juniors Benji Michel and Gio Magana-Rivera were named to the All-West Coast Conference Men's Soccer First Team as seven Pilots total earned all-league postseason recognition. Michel has been selected to the All-WCC First Team all three of his seasons on The Bluff, while it's the first time on the league's top team for Magana-Rivera.
Â
Portland's Rey Ortiz landed on the All-WCC Second Team, Esteban Calvo, Malcolm Dixon, and Lionel Mills all received honorable mention, and Jake Arteaga was named to the conference's all-freshman team.
Â
Michel battled injuries this season to lead the Pilots with 10 goals. He ranks third nationally with six game-winners, and he also has two assists for a total of 22 points. Michel opened the year by scoring a goal in six straight games, and he was named Top Drawer Soccer's National Player of the Week on Oct. 1.
Â
Magana-Rivera had a stellar junior campaign, scoring two goals, while handing out five assists. He also had one game-winner, which came against Loyola Marymount. The five assists are a career-high for Magana-Rivera, who landed on the league's all-freshman team in 2016.
Â
Ortiz also battled through injuries this fall, and the junior tallied three goals and three assists for nine points. He had one-game winner against Syracuse, and the midfielder previously landed on the All-WCC First Team in 2017.
Â
Calvo is a junior defender in his first year with the Pilots. The outside back, and sometimes center back, finished the regular season with one goal and three assists, and he helped the Pilots record five shutouts.
Â
Dixon, a senior forward, had his best year with the Pilots, finishing second on the team with four goals. He also recorded two assists for 10 points, and he scored one game-winner. The four goals and 10 points are both career-highs.
Â
Mills is a senior center back who has anchored Portland's backline for four straight years. He played a major role in Portland's five shutouts.
Â
Arteaga is a freshman who finished the regular season on a tear. He scored three goals, the first of his career, during Portland's final three games, helping the Pilots secure a spot in the post-season.
Â
UCLA visits the No. 21 Pilots on Thursday for a 4:00 p.m. NCAA First Round match-up at Merlo Field.
Â
All five WCC individual awards - including the all-conference teams - were voted on solely by the WCC's eight head coaches.Â
