SAN BRUNO, Calif. --- Portland sophomore Taryn Ries was named to the All-West Coast Conference Women's Soccer First Team, sophomore Olivia Dendinger was selected to the second team, and junior Kimberly Hazlett landed honorable mention accolades, it was announced on Tuesday. This is the first all-conference honor for both Ries and Dendinger, while Hazlett earns all-league recognition for the third straight year.
Â
Ries, a forward out of Ridgefield, Wash., had a breakout season, ranking seventh nationally in both goals (15) and game-winners (6). She was tops in the conference in both those categories, and she also led the league with 33 points. Against WCC opponents, Ries scored nine goals and collected 19 points, both league-bests, and she finished with three assists on the year.
Â
Ries produced two of the three hat tricks recorded by a WCC player this season, and she's the first Pilot to score three goals twice in the same year since Danielle Foxhoven accomplished the feat in 2009. Her 15 goals are the most in a season since Foxhoven netted 25 during that same 2009 campaign.
Â
Dendinger, a center back who came to The Bluff from Hillsboro, helped anchor Portland's backline this season, starting all 20 matches. Portland was one of the top defensive teams in the conference, claiming eight shutouts. The Pilots also possessed a goals-against average of less than 1.00 for most of the year, and the eight clean sheets are the most for Portland since 2013.
Â
Hazlett, who originally hails from Bellingham, Wash., has earned all-conference recognition every year on The Bluff. A midfielder who sometimes plays up top, Hazlett was second on the team in points, finishing with five goals and six assists. In conference play, Hazlett had a pair of goals and three assists. She tallied one game-winner, and three of her assists came on game-winners.
Â
All five individual awards, including the all-conference teams, were voted on solely by the WCC's 10 head coaches.Â
