PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland forward Benji Michel landed on Top Drawer Soccer's Best XI Second Team and midfielder Jake Arteaga was named to the All-Freshman Second Team, it was announced on Monday morning. Michel was previously named a United Soccer Coaches Second Team All-American.
Â
Michel, a junior out of Orlando, Fla., led the Pilots this season with 11 goals and he ranked third nationally with seven game-winners. He opened the year by scoring a goal in six straight games, and he was named Top Drawer Soccer's National Player of the Week on Oct. 1. Michel scored the only goal during Portland's 1-0 win over UCLA in the NCAA First Round.
Â
Earlier this month Michel was named to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region First Team, and he landed on the All-West Coast Conference First Team in November.
Â
Arteaga, who hails from Glendora, Calif., finished the regular season on a tear. He scored three goals, the first of his career, during Portland's final three games, helping the Pilots secure a spot in the post-season. He also played a role in the Pilots' six shutouts.
