PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland men's tennis team posted a 5-0 dual match win against the Saint Mary's Gaels on Friday at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. The Pilots improve to 10-8 overall and 5-2 in West Coast Conference play, while the Gaels drop to 4-15 and 1-6 in WCC matches.
Portland cruised to the doubles point as senior Michail Pervolarakis and freshman Tom Hann won 6-2 at No. 1 and Mathieu and Pierre Garcia posted a 6-2 victory at No. 2. The duo of Jamie Fisher and Carlos Donat were leading 5-2 when the point was clinched.
The Pilots then took the top four singles matches to conclude the scoring, all in straight sets.
Pervolarakis, ranked No. 58 nationally, posted a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6 (5) win against Damon Kesaris at the top of the lineup.
Mathieu Garcia held off Nash Vollenweider 6-2, 7-6 (4) at the No. 2 position and Pierre Garcia made quick work of Matthew Campana at No. 3 singles by a 6-1, 6-1 margin.
Donat breezed to a 6-3, 6-1 win against Matis Bot at No. 4 in the final completed match. Hann won the first set at No. 6 singles against Daniel Krutik in an unfinished match, while Chambers Easterling won his first set for the Gaels at No. 5 singles.
"We got a nice start to this last weekend of the season," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "We came out ready to play in the doubles and I don't think our opponents had their feet under them yet. We were definitely challenged throughout the singles lineup. The Garcia brothers had a couple of nice wins and Mike played very well against maybe the second best player in the conference."
Portland will conclude the regular season against Pacific at 11 a.m. Sunday at the Louisiana Pacific Tennis Center. It will mark the final home match for the careers of Portland's seven seniors. The contest will have live video and scoring available at

"Overall I was pleased with the effort today," Gross added. "I'm confident we will raise our level on Sunday a bit more because I'm sure Pacific is going to be ready to go. They are still playing for a chance to get into the conference tournament so I know they are going to bring the energy."
