Fans will get a first look at the 2018-19 Pilots with a Purple & White Scrimmage scheduled for 2 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 20 at the Chiles Center. The Pilots will then host an exhibition game against Antelope Valley on Saturday, Oct. 27. Antelope Valley is an NAIA Division II school coached by Pilot Hall of Famer and former NBA standout, Darwin Cook. The team's final exhibition will be against Westmont College (NAIA Division I) on Saturday, Nov. 3. Westmont advanced to the 2018 NAIA Tournament and finished the year with a 24-8 record and ranked No. 13 nationally.
Portland opens the regular season opener on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at the Chiles Center against Multnomah, before heading to Honolulu, Hawaii for a pair of games at the Rainbow Classic. Portland will face host Hawaii and North Texas on Nov. 9-10.
The Pilots return home to host Lewis & Clark College on Monday, Nov. 19 before hosting the Portland Classic on Nov. 21-24. Competing teams include Cal Poly, Texas State and USC Upstate in a round robin tournament. The four teams will play each other with doubleheaders on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday.
A pair of challenging road games follows with a trip to Colorado on Wednesday, Nov. 28 and then to crosstown rival Portland State on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at the new Viking Pavilion.
Portland then hosts a four-game homestand beginning with Sacramento State on Saturday, Dec. 8 followed by Grambling State (Dec. 15), Seattle University (Dec. 17) and Florida A&M (Dec. 21). The Pilots conclude non-conference play at Cal State Fullerton on Saturday, Dec. 29.
The West Coast Conference regular season will stretch over a nine-week span, featuring 16 conference games in a new schedule format adopted in May of 2018. The 16-game schedule is the result of changes by the WCC Presidents' Council as part of the Conference's
Men's Basketball Enhancement Plan.
Conference play is slated to begin on Thursday, January 3, while the Pilots WCC-opener will be at Loyola Marymount on Saturday, Jan. 5. Portland will visit 2018 NIT participant BYU on Thursday, Jan. 10 and then return home to host the Pacific Tigers on Saturday, Jan. 12.
The Pilots host San Diego on Thursday, Jan. 17 and then welcome perennial contender Gonzaga to the Chiles Center on Saturday, Jan. 19. The Bulldogs are coming off of a fourth consecutive NCAA Sweet 16 appearance.
Other WCC home games include Pepperdine (Jan. 31), BYU (Feb. 7), Loyola Marymount (Feb. 9), San Francisco (Feb. 16), and Santa Clara closes out the regular season on Saturday, March 2. Portland does not host Saint Mary's and will not play at Gonzaga as a result of the new WCC scheduling model.
The home games against BYU, Loyola Marymount and Santa Clara will also be doubleheaders with corresponding women's basketball WCC games. Tip-off times and complete television coverage is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
The WCC will celebrate its 11th year in Las Vegas when the 2019 West Coast Conference Basketball Championships return to the Orleans Arena from March 7-12.
Portland head coach Terry Porter returns for his third year on The Bluff and returns four starters, seven lettermen, four redshirt players, and adds six newcomers to the
2018-19 roster. The Pilots return six of the top seven scorers from last season, including All-WCC honorable mention guard, Marcus Shaver Jr.
In addition to season tickets, mini-packs and flex packages will be available for sale on Monday, Aug. 27, while most single-game and group packages go on-sale on Monday, Oct. 1. Gonzaga and BYU single-game tickets will go on-sale on Thursday, January 3 at 11 a.m. For complete men's basketball ticket information,
