PORTLAND, Ore. --- The Portland Pilots women's rowing team begins their fall season this weekend when they travel north for the Puget Sound Autumn Invite in Lakewood, Wash, then host the Portland Fall Classic the following day in Vancouver, Wash. The Pilots will compete in five races at the PSAI Regatta on Saturday, and will send six boats at the Portland Fall Classic this Sunday.
"We have had a couple of scrimmages this fall, but we are looking forward to testing our strengths in the next two weekends against a broader field", said head coach Pasha Spencer about the upcoming races.
The Pilots return a majority of their varsity squad from the Spring season, including sophomore Desi Petrova and Maddie Olson, juniors Catherine Watson, Allison Palazzotto, Lauren Yee, Avery Romano, Brooklyn Gomez, Tess Pritchett and seniors Jacquelyn Bass & Amanda Hernandez Michalski.
Portland will be competing in five races at the Puget Sound Autumn Invite, sending the Varsity eight's and four's, two Novice boats and a single small boat.
The entire course is 5000 meters in distance and results will be based on each boat's time.
The following day, the Pilots will host the Portland Fall Classic across the Columbia River. Portland will send six boats, including the Varsity, JV and Novice eight's & four's.
This is one of the few home events for the Pilots, and the team is inviting fans to come cheer on the squad while the UP boats will be racing throughout the morning: coffee and refreshments will be available to all Pilot fans at the team tent from 8:30-11:30 a.m. at the beach at Vancouver Lake Regional Park.
