PORTLAND, Ore. --- Reuben Kiprono from men's cross country and Liz Reich of volleyball are the U.S. Bank Student-Athletes of the Month for October. Kiprono paced the Pilots to a second-place finish at the West Coast Conference Championships, and Reich led her team in kills.
Kiprono, a redshirt-junior, earned All-WCC Honors with an impressive sixth-place individual finish at the WCC Cross Country Championships last weekend in Van Nuys, Calif. Being Portland's first finisher, Kiprono led the Pilots to second-place in the team competition, while also claiming a new personal record in the 8K with his time of 23:49.72.
Earlier in the month, Kiprono represented Portland at the esteemed Nuttycombe Invitational, where he competed against some of the country's best and helped the team secure ninth-place among nationally ranked programs.
In the month of October, Reich led the Pilots in kills with 120, while adding 13 blocks and eight digs. In each of Portland's three victories during October, the junior was named the Player of the Match. In those wins against Gonzaga, Pacific and San Francisco, she attained a total of 51 kills, five blocks and two digs. Reich has reached new heights in 2019, recording a career high in kills (298) & points (318) with seven matches left in the season.
