PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland senior midfielder Larkin Russell and junior forward Taryn Ries were selected to the first team and 11 Pilots overall earned All-West Coast Conference Women's Soccer All-Academic recognition, it was announced on Tuesday. This is the second straight year on the league's all-academic team for Russell, and it's first such honor for Ries.
Â
The Pilots led the league with their 11 all-academic selections.
Â
Russell also nabbed honorable mention recognition as a sophomore, giving her academic accolades all three years she was eligible. A psychology major with a 3.97 GPA, Russell had one goal and three assists this fall, and two of her assists came on game-winners.
Â
Ries is also majoring in psychology, and she boats a GPA of 3.78. Last year Ries earned conference all-academic honorable mention, and earlier this fall she landed on the 2019 United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-West Region Second Team. This season Ries led the Pilots with eight goals, four game-winners, four assists, and 20 points, and she landed on the All-WCC First Team. She was also voted to the United Soccer Coaches All-West Region Third Team.
Â
Earning WCC All-Academic Honorable Mention for the Pilots are seniors Lucy Davidson, Rachel Khaw, Kimberly Hazlett, Brianna Miyama and Natalie Muth, juniors Olivia Dendinger, Ellie Walker, and Elliott Winkelmann, and sophomore Emily Collier.
Â
At the conclusion of each athletic season, the WCC selects an all-academic squad for each WCC-sponsored sport. To be considered, a student-athlete must maintain at least a 3.20 cumulative grade point average while also being a significant contributor to her team.
