PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland women's track and field student-athletes Lauren LaRocco and Taryn Rawlings, along with Portland Baseball's Connor Knutson have been named the University of Portland's U.S Bank Student-Athletes of the Month for February.
Seniors Lauren LaRocco and Taryn Rawlings both qualified to compete at the 2019 NCAA Indoor Track a Field Championships during the month of February. LaRocco qualified for the 5000m with the ninth best time in her field (15:33.20), while Rawlings secured the 14
th spot in the mile preliminary race (4:36.00). This is the first time in UP History that the women's track and field team had sent two Pilots to compete at the Championships. The NCAA Committee announced the 2019 Indoor Qualifiers at the end of the month of February after regular season competition had concluded.
Knutson went 1-0 during the month and picked up three saves. The junior right-hander didn't allow a run in 6.0 innings pitched, he struck out three, and he held opposing hitters to a .200 batting average. Knutson's win came during a 2.0 inning outing at Hawai'i, and he registered all three saves during Portland's visit to Nacogdoches, Texas. He notched his first save when he K'd two against North Dakota State in Texas, and he tossed a flawless inning against UT Rio Grande Valley to earn his second stop. Before the month was done, he notched one more save against NDSU.
