BELLEVUE, Wash. --- Portland's Tracye Tammaro produced a go-ahead double in the top of the 10th, Dutton Elske added a three-run homer, and Daniel Lopez went 3-for-3 with a pair of RBI's as the Pilots defeated the Seattle U Redhawks 8-4 in extra innings on Tuesday afternoon at Bannerwood Park. Elske also tripled during the win.
Â
Earlier Tuesday the Pilots (19-11) finished off the Redhawks (6-21) 16-14 in a game that started last Wednesday in Portland before being suspended by rain. The two teams concluded that game before playing their regularly scheduled contest.
Â
Seattle U jumped ahead 3-0 in the second game with a three-run bottom of the second inning, which chased Portland freshman starter Cole Wilkinson.
Â
The Pilots got one of those runs back in the top of the sixth inning after they loaded the bases with two outs. Cody Hawken then claimed the RBI by earning a walk, pulling the Pilots within 3-1.
Â
An inning later, the Pilots surged in front with three runs, making it a 4-3 ballgame. Elske opened the frame with a lead-off triple, and he would trot home when Matt Kelly reached on an error. A few batters later, Lopez sent a two-run single to left field, handing the Pilots their first lead of the game.
Â
Portland reliever Christian Peters preserved the lead with 2.0 scoreless innings, but the Redhawks got to closer Connor Knutson for a run in the bottom of the ninth to send it to extra innings.
Â
The Pilots responded with a four-run 10th, which started with an RBI double off the bat of Tammaro. Elske then secured the win with his homer, his first of the season.
Â
Knutson (2-1) takes the win, while Seattle's Marcus Guarin (0-1) is saddled with the loss.
Â
Next up for the Pilots is a trip to Moraga, Calif., for a three-game West Coast Conference series with the Saint Mary's Gaels at Louis Guisto Field. Friday's opener is set for 3 p.m.
