Box Score SPOKANE, Wash. – The Gonzaga Bulldogs posted a 4-1 win over Portland in the regular season finale for both teams on Saturday at the Stevens Center. With the victory, Gonzaga clinched second place in the WCC standings with a 7-2 league record. Portland concludes the year at 7-14 overall and 2-7 in league.

"It's not a surprise to me that Gonzaga is where they are right now," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "When I saw the schedule I kind of had this match circled as a match that will probably determine a high seed in the conference tournament before Carlos (Donat) got hurt. You can't teach experience and their two seniors came through big today and it proved to be the difference."

The doubles point came down to the wire with Gonzaga's No. 3 team winning first. Portland's No. 1 tandem of freshmen Sema Pankin and Eleftherios Neos then defeated Ruadhan O'Sullivan and Sam Feit, 7-5. The Bulldogs took the deciding point with a 6-4 win at the No. 2 spot.

Singles was a battle as four of the six spots in the lineup went to three sets. O'Sullivan and Emilio Moreno made it 3-0 Gonzaga with straight set wins at No. 2 and No. 5.

Pilot freshman Leo Hibi then outlasted Hunter Egger 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 at No. 6 for Portland's point. With Neos and freshman Nicklas Oberg each leading late in their respective third sets, Gonzaga clinched with Feit defeating Pankin 7-5, 3-6, 6-3 at the top of the lineup.

"We definitely had our chances," Gross noted. "We had a couple of points to have a chance to serve for the doubles point. Leo did an excellent job coming through. Lefty was at match point when the match got called and Nick was up at 6-5 in the third. We needed a few more things to go right, but just didn't fall our way today."

Playing a lineup of primarily all freshmen and one sophomore, the Pilots constantly battled injuries throughout the season. The entire roster is expected to return to next year.
