SACRAMENTO, CALIF.--- The Portland Pilots men's and women's track teams began the NCAA West Regional meet on Thursday, May 23rd, held at the campus of Sacramento State. Redshirt-senior Taryn Rawlings led all scorers by finishing both second in her heat and second overall in the 1500m with her time of 4:15.06, qualifying for the quarterfinal on Saturday, set to begin at 6:30 PM. Junior Maddy Lyons also ran in the event, finishing with a time of 4:41.66.

Later on, Aoibe Richardson and Lauren LaRocco ran the women's 10k, coming in at times of 34:10.32 and 34:51.94, respectively. LaRocco will also compete in the 5k on Saturday, May 25th, at 8:05 PM for another chance to move on towards the NCAA Outdoor Championships.

"Taryn looked great and did exactly what she needed to do," said women's head coach Ian Solof. "Aoibhe ran a great race to improve 16 spots from last year, just missing qualifying by two places."

In the men's 10k, junior Emmanuel Roudolff-Levisse finished first for Portland, coming in at a time of 29:45.65. Close behind him was Gabriel Haughey at 29:50.96, following with teammates Michael Teran-Solano (30:02.06), Evert Silva (30:08.46), and Caleb Webb (30:27.20).

Regional action continues tomorrow for the Pilots, with Henry Hayes, Noah Schutte, Riley Osen, and Simon Grannetiain the men's 3000m steeplechase, beginning at 9 PM. Then on Saturday, Rawlings is back on the track in the 1500m, as well as the men's and women's 5k quarterfinals, featuring LaRocco, Webb, Silva, and Teran-Solano.
