SEATTLE, Wash. – Portland Sports Network (PSN), the University of Portland's in-house athletics video production team, has been nominated for six Northwest Emmy® Awards as announced by the
Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, in the College Awards category. Category winners will be announced in a ceremony at The Washington Athletic Club in Seattle on Saturday, June 8.
University of Portland students, Cyrus Maunakea (Class of 2019), Anna Oberg (Class of 2020) and Andrew Krantz (Class of 2020) where each nominated in the 2019 College Award Nominations.
Graduating senior Cyrus Maunakea led the way with three nominations.
Once a Pilot, always a Pilot – Kienan Weekes, nominated in the "News: General Assignment – Light" category, tells the story of men's soccer goalkeeper who waited for four years to get his shot at being the starter for the Pilots. After a successful senior season, Weekes signed a professional contract to play with FC Tucson. The next nomination came in the "Short Form Non-Fiction" for the feature,
Allegra Vanderwilde Retrospective. Rounding out the nominations for Maunakea, he is a finalist in the "Editor of the Year" category. Maunakea received five nominations in his tenure at the University of Portland, the most by any one student.
"It's an honor and privilege to be nominated for my work over the past year," Maunakea said. "My favorite part about creating content is sharing a story, idea, or perspective with others. To know that others like that is just a plus. It is a great way to end my undergraduate career at the University of Portland."
Joining Maunakea in the "Short Form Non-Fiction" category is Portland Women's Tennis player Anna Oberg. Oberg's first nomination is for her feature Portland's Women's Cross Country – A Season to Remember, which depicts the most successful season in
Portland Women's Cross Country history. A story of perseverance, determination and teamwork saw the team finish 12th at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, the best finish in program history.
Andrew Krantz received two nominations as he joins Maunakea in the "Editor of the Year" category.
Michelle French: Coming Home Chapter 2 received a nomination in the "Short Form Fiction" category. It was 1-of-5 videos in a series covering Women's Soccer head coach Michelle French's first season on The Bluff. Chapter 2 focused on the team's grit and never give up mentality that saw them have one of the most successful seasons in recent years.
This marks the fourth year in a row that PSN students have earned Northwest College Award Nominations. University of Portland tied Washington State University with most nominations this year (6).
PSN has received an all-time total of 13 nominations in the College Awards category and one in the Professional category.
