PORTLAND, ORE.--- Portland track redshirt-senior Taryn Rawlings and junior Michael Teran-Solono are the U.S. Bank Student Athletes of the Month for May.
Rawlings broke two school records this past month, in both the 800m and the 1500m. At the local Portland Twilight, Rawlings ran a stellar time of 2:03.90 in the 800m, breaking the previous all-time record by nearly three seconds. Only a few weeks later at the NCAA West Regional, she broke the 1500m all-time record with a time of 4:10.20 on her way to qualifying for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships. Rawlings is the only runner to represent Portland at the national meet, where she will compete in the 1500m semifinal on Thursday, June 6th.
Teran-Solono claimed a new personal best of 13:57.30 in the 5K at the Payton Jordan Invitational at the beginning of the month, a time which puts him at 10th place all-time in the event and qualified for the NCAA West Regional. Then in the last regular season meet of the outdoor season, he ran another qualifying time in the 10K, 29:19.16, which was a 31-second improvement from his previous personal record. At the regional meet, Teran-Solono competed in both the 5K and the 10K races.
