PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland dropped a 77-65 West Coast Conference road game against Loyola Marymount Thursday at Gersten Pavilion as injuries continued to impact the lineup. Junior guard JoJo Walker led four Pilots in double figures with 17 points, while Isaiah White added 13 points.
Jacob Tryon and Takiula Fahrensohn chipped in 12 and 11 points, respectively, as Fahrensohn returned to the rotation after missing the last three games with a leg injury, but Portland would lose three more impact players on the over the course of the day.
Tahirou Diabate and Quincy Ferebee were late scratches and did not suit up, while Malcolm Porter played just 49 seconds before exiting the game and not returning.
The Lions (8-12, 2-4 WCC) took no pity and raced out to an early 17-point lead. White sparked a 10-0 Portland run with a pair of three-pointers followed by a steal and dunk to cut the margin to seven and force a LMU timeout.
The home side took a 37-28 lead into the break and the Pilots (9-12, 1-5) would get as close as eight early in the second period, but the Lions maintained a double-digit lead over the final ten minutes to secure the win.
Portland's offensive woes continued as the team shot 34 percent overall from the field. The Pilots were 14-of-18 from the foul line and 11-of-37 from three-point range.
LMU capitalized on Portland's depleted front court by gaining a 43-24 rebounding edge and 30-14 margin in points in the paint.
Keli Leaupepe scored a game-high 24 points off the bench on 9-of-10 shooting for the Lions, while Parker Dortch added 20 points and Eli Scott finished with 10 assists and 13 rebounds.
The Pilots will look to rebound on Saturday at Pepperdine with a 5 p.m. tip at Firestone Fieldhouse. The game will have video coverage on the WCC Network, while the radio pregame show begins at 4:30 p.m. on 910 ESPN-Portland (KMTT).
