PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots led by 13 points early in the second half, but the Pepperdine Waves pulled away late for a 66-59 victory Thursday night in West Coast Conference basketball action at the Chiles Center.
Pepperdine junior point guard Colbey Ross struggled early, but scored 27 of his game-high 30 points in the second half. Ross added a career-high 14 rebounds to propel the Waves (15-13, 8-6 WCC) to victory.

Portland raced to a 31-21 halftime lead by holding the Waves to 6-of-30 shooting in the period and 13 turnovers. Diabate led the way with 10 first half points for the Pilots.
White buried a three-pointer to open the second half and give Portland its largest lead, but the Pilots went cold as Ross took over.
Ross scored 17 of Pepperdine's next 19 points for the Waves and then collected an offensive rebound and assist to Kessler Edwards for a layup to cut the deficit to 42-41.
Ross made four more free throws and then Kameron Edwards converted a driving layup to give the Waves their first lead since the opening minutes at 47-46 with 8:40 remaining.

Portland was then dealt a difficult blow when White collected a long rebound and tried to score in transition, but came down awkwardly on his foot and was forced to leave the game with 5:30 left. Pepperdine capitalized with a 13-3 run after the injury to pull away.
The Pilots shot just 30 percent from the field in the second half and 36 percent for the game. The Pilots were outrebounded 47-32 and gave up a 14-2 margin in second chance points.
Porter returned to the lineup after missing the previous five games with a knee injury and finished with 10 points, four rebounds and two assists in 18 minutes off the bench.
