SEATTLE, Wash. – Portland Sports Network (PSN), the University of Portland's in-house athletics video production team, has been nominated for two Northwest Emmy® Awards as announced by the
Northwest Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences, in the College Awards category. This is the fifth consecutive year that PSN has had at least one nomination.
Portland student Anna Oberg '20, also a member of the Pilot women's tennis team, has been nominated in the "Sports" and "Editor of the Year" category. She was also nominated last year in the "Short-Form Non-Fiction" category for her feature detailing a historic season for the
Portland Women's Cross Country Program.
Oberg's nominated video this year coincided with the Athletic Department celebrating National Women in Sports Day this spring.
The video features various student-athletes representing a wide array of programs at Portland writing a letter to their younger self. The message portrayed is inspiring and powerful for young female athletes to strive for their dreams.
"This project was really special for me," Oberg said. "Not only because it featured other female student-athletes, but also because I got be a part of it. It's so cool to see a project I was so passionate about getting recognition from the NATAS organization."
"Anna epitomizes everything we want from a student-athlete," said Jason Brough, Senior Associate Athletic Director. "She competed hard on the court, was a great student that was active in the campus community, and found time to create some amazing content for our network the last couple of years. That passion and dedication could be seen in both the message and craft of her nominated video. We are thrilled for her nomination and even more excited to have her back with our video team next year."
Oberg will return next year to serve as a graduate student working for PSN while pursuing a Master of Business Administration in Operations and Technology Management.
"Credit to Vice President for Athletics Scott Leykam and the University of Portland leadership team for recognizing and investing in our efforts to grow the Portland Sports Network," Brough added. "Those resources have allowed the tremendous mentorship of Jose Nevarez and Riley Clark to provide opportunities for a number of talented student workers in video production and their record speaks for itself."
To date Portland Sports Network has received 15 nominations in the College Awards category, one in the Professional category, and have had five winners.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NATAS Northwest Board of Governors were forced to cancel the in-person event will instead host a virtual ceremony on June 6.
