PORTLAND, Ore. --- Recent University of Portland graduate and former Pilots tennis player Anna Oberg ('20) was awarded a Northwest Emmy® Award and received an SVG College/NACDA College Sports Media Sports Award for her video celebrating "National Women in Sports Day". The SVG award came against national competition and was the first of its kind to be won by a member of the Portland Sports Network (PSN), the University of Portland's in-house athletics video production team.
It is the fifth consecutive year that PSN has featured a winner in the Northwest Emmy® Awards college category.
Oberg's nominated video this year coincided with the Athletic Department celebrating National Women in Sports Day this spring. The video features various student-athletes representing a wide array of programs at Portland writing a letter to their younger self. The message portrayed is inspiring and powerful for young female athletes to strive for their dreams.
"It's an honor to be recognized on a national scale for a cause that I was very passionate about," Oberg said. "As a student athlete at UP, it was really special to not only produce and edit a project like this but be featured in it as well. I'm super fortunate to have mentors like Jose Nevarez (UP Assistant Athletic Director / Broadcast Operations), who gave me this opportunity and an outlet to be creative outside of my sport."
Oberg will return next year to serve as a graduate student working for PSN while pursuing a Master of Business Administration in Operations and Technology Management.
To date Portland Sports Network has received 15 nominations in the NATAS NW College Awards category, one in the Professional category, and have had six winners.
