PORTLAND, Ore. --- Portland senior forward Taryn Ries was selected to the 2020-21 All-West Coast Conference Preseason Women's Soccer Team and the Pilots were picked to finish fifth in the annual poll of the league's 10 head coaches. This is the second straight year to earn preseason all-league honors for Ries.
Â
Last year Ries led the Pilots with eight goals, and she also had four assists for a team-high 20 points. Four of her goals were game-winners, which was tied for third most in the WCC. Ries also ranked seventh in the conference in goals per game (0.47), and was eighth in overall goals, points, and points per game (1.18).
Â
Ries, who originally hails from Ridgefield, Wash., has earned all-west region recognition the past two years, and she was named to the All-WCC First Team as both a sophomore and a junior.
Â
Ries is one of 15 returning players for the Pilots, who are under the guidance of third-year head coach Michelle French. This year's squad also features nine newcomers.
Â
BYU was picked as the favorite to win their third straight WCC Title.
Â
The Pilots are scheduled to play an exhibition game at home on Friday, Feb. 5 against Linfield at Merlo Field.
