PORTLAND, Ore. – Tyler Robertson finished with 22 points, five rebounds and eight assists to lead Portland past Morgan State 74-63 Saturday night at the Chiles Center. The Pilots extended their winning streak to four games, while the Bears lost for the third time in a row.
Moses Wood added 15 points and eight rebounds for the Pilots (4-1) and Chris Austin chipped in 10 points and eight rebounds.
Keith McGee and Lagio Grantsaan scored 14 apiece to lead the Bears (2-3).
Portland was solid defensively all night, limiting Morgan State to 36 percent shooting from the field. The Pilots maintained a double-digit lead for most of the second half as Robertson opened the period with back-to-back three-pointers.
McGee's two free throws made it 50-42 midway through the half, but Robertson answered with a pair at the stripe and then found Jack Perry for a three-pointer on the next possession to provide some cushion. The lead would grow to 15 points late in regulation and the game was never in doubt down the stretch.
Portland shot 48 percent for the game and made 17-of-20 free throws. The Pilots also gained a 41-31 edge on the glass.
Robertson led the way early with 10 first half points. Portland led by as much as 11 points late in the period, spurred by three straight baskets from Matheus Silveira, and took a 33-25 lead into the halftime locker room.
Portland will next head across town to face the Portland State Vikings on Tuesday at 7 p.m. The game will be televised live on Portland's CW (KRCW-TV) and on the radio on 910 ESPN Portland (KMTT).
