SEATTLE, Wash. – The Portland Pilots (11-7-1, 4-2-1 WCC) gave up a hat trick to Dylan Teves as they fell to the Washington Huskies (15-1-2, 6-1-2 Pac-12) 3-1 in Seattle. Luke Hendel had the lone score for Portland.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Pilots managed the Huskies solidly at the start of the match. Washington got off shots, but stellar play from George Tasouris – who had four saves in the first half – kept things tied early.
- Unfortunately, that didn't last long. In the final minute of the half, Washington rushed out in transition. Dylan Teves broke through the back line for the Huskies and scored to make it 1-0 Huskies at the half.
- Washington found themselves on the scoreboard again in the 80th minute. Teves found the opening again and put it away for the Huskies.
- The Pilots didn't relent though, and put together a score themselves. Luke Hendel had the penalty kick blocked in the 81st minute, but he followed his shot and had the score. The Pilots trailed only one.
- But Teves wasn't done. He took a pass into the box and launched a difficult shot from just inside the 18. It found the top left corner to give Washington a 3-1 lead, which would proved to be the final.
PILOT POINTS
- Tasouris's seven saves were the most by a Pilot in a playoff game since 2018, when Kienan Weekes had seven against Kentucky.
- Hendel's goal was his first ever in the playoffs. It was also his third of the season.
- This was the Pilots' second trip to the second round of the NCAA Tournament in the Nick Carlin-Voigt era.
- The Pilots were one of only two WCC teams to make the playoffs this season.
POSTGAME THOUGHTS WITH NICK CARLIN-VOIGT
"Really proud of the guys first of all, for the guys to get back to the tournament, for us to have really a historical season in many ways. I thought we battled tonight. Washington's a very direct team, just lots of set pieces, credit to them for advancing… but I just couldn't be more proud of my guys."
"We had a great run and the team really came together beautifully. They created a special culture and bond with life-long memories. Thank you to everyone who supported this team. We are so grateful to all of our supporters and fans."
