BOSTON, Mass.---Anna Pataki launched the 2021 Track and Field Indoor season with a historic performance at the BU Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener last weekend, setting a new national indoor 5K record for Hungary, her home country. Her time of time of 15:55.65 also is good for third all-time in the Portland record books in the 5K.
Â
The Pilot standout shattered the previous all-time Hungarian record of 16:00.17, set by Krisztina Papp in 2004. Pataki shaved off more than 20 seconds from her previous best in the event to finish in 22nd place at the meet.
Â
"This is a huge accomplishment for Anna!" said head coach Ian Solof. "It is so exciting to see her continue to improve as a runner and reach higher levels. She has been one of our all-time best runners and one of my all-time favorites. I can't wait to see what she accomplishes in the future."
Â
The Pilots men's and women's track and field teams will continue the indoor season in January and are set to host four meets at the Chiles Center. More info on the upcoming 2022 Portland indoor track and field seasons will be released in the coming weeks.
