BEAVERTON, Ore. – Two days after falling at home to crosstown rivals Portland State, the University of Portland women's tennis team bounced back for a 4-3 road victory Sunday afternoon at the Babette Horenstein Tennis Center. Junior Angela Schuster provided the clinching point, outlasting Ashley Ramirez 1-6, 7-5, 6-3 at No. 6 singles.
Iva Zelic won her third straight singles match for the Pilots (1-3) with a 6-2, 7-5 victory at the top of the lineup against Capucine Sanoner. Freshman Lele Daszuta also picked up a straight sets win at No. 5 singles over Gerda Upeniece.
The Vikings (3-4) picked up a pair of three-set singles wins with Lotti Meszaros holding off Neli Sunjic in a hard-fought match at the No. 2 position. Makota Ohara also won in three against Marija Elenova at No. 4, while Emily Rees picked up a straight sets win against Emily Soares at No. 3.
Portland captured the early momentum by claiming a very competitive doubles point. Sunjic and freshman Rimona Rouf took a 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot. PSU won 6-4 at No. 3 singles, but the Pilots took the point with a 7-5 win at No. 1 doubles courtesy of Zelic and partner Raphaelle LeBlanc.
