PROVO, Utah – The Portland Pilots women's soccer team is on the road for their regular season finale against the No. 17 BYU Cougars. The two teams will face off on Saturday, Apr. 17 at 12 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at PortlandPilots.com.
The Pilots are 3-3-3 overall and 2-3-3 in conference play this season. Before their most recent match, the Pilots had been dominant defensively, recording five straight shutouts from Mar. 6 to Apr. 3. That was the most since the 2010 season for Portland. That same year, the Pilots were ranked No. 2 in the nation. Senior goalkeeper Madison Zamora twice earned WCC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts. Last weekend, the Pilots fell to the Saint Mary's Gaels 1-0.
The Cougars are the No. 17 team in the country and sit at second in the conference standings with a 10-3-1 overall record and a 6-1-1 conference record. They have four of the top five goalscorers in the conference this season. Mikayla Colohan is firmly in first with 11 goals this year while Cameron Tucker, Bella Folino and Rachel McCarthy are all tied for second with eight goals. Most recently, BYU beat the Pepperdine Waves 2-1 in Malibu.
BYU holds the edge in the all-time series against the Pilots with a 10-4-0 record. The Cougars have taken the last nine matches between the two squads, most recently beating the Pilots 2-0 in Portland back in 2019. The last time Portland beat BYU was in 2006, a match they won 2-1.
