PORTLAND, Ore. – Portland men's basketball announced that Skylar Wilson signed with the Pilots and will join the program as a freshman for the 2021-22 season. Wilson played this past season at Southern California Academy after previously attending Eaglecrest High School in Colorado.
Wilson (6-7, 185) was a teammate of fellow
Pilot signee Yaru Harvey this season at the SoCal Academy, an elite basketball training program that played against high-level, national competition throughout the season.
"Skylar has a chance to be a special player for years to come," Portland head coach Shantay Legans said. "He has a combination of great size and athleticism combined with a proven shooting ability from the perimeter. Our program strives off the ability to play at both ends of the court and he has the potential to do that at a very high level."
"I developed a family-like relationship with the coaching staff during the recruiting process," Wilson said of his commitment to Portland. "I always felt like playing for Coach Legans, Bobby (Suarez) and T.J. (Lipold) was the best fit for me."
In two varsity seasons for Eaglecrest, Wilson helped the team advance to a pair of Sweet 16 appearances at the Colorado 5A State Tournament, the highest level of basketball in the state. He garnered All-Centennial League second team honors as a junior for the Raptors.
Wilson also played two seasons for the Billups Elite AAU team.
"I'm a high-flying, athletic finisher at the room with a soft shooting touch," Wilson said about his game. "I like to play in transition and be aggressive on defense, so Coach Legans' style of play really fits my game."
Wilson and Harvey join previously signed junior college guard
Deng Dut and Eastern Washington transfer
Mike Meadows as the newest members of the Pilots. More roster announcements will come throughout the week.
