PORTLAND, Ore. – Women's track and field runner Maya Murphy-Cook and men's tennis player Nick Oberg have been named the University of Portland U.S. Bank Student-Athletes of the Month for April.
Murphy-Cook nabbed wins in multiple events over the course of the month. She won five races in total with seven top-three finishes. Murphy-Cook won the 200-meter dash four times and the 100-meter dash once at the Lewis and Clark Invitational Meet on April 17.
The Roseville, Calif. native set personal records in the 200m twice in April. Murphy-Cook's time of 24.95 seconds at the Oregon Relays was a new personal best and was good for second-place all-time in program history.
Oberg had a dominant April, putting together the best record of any Pilot tennis player at 5-1. Oberg won five straight WCC matches to finish the season.
Oberg helped earn the clinching point in two key matches, giving the Pilots the victory. He won in straight sets against Loyola Marymount on Apr. 18 and in three sets against Saint Mary's in the season finale on Apr. 24 to help the Pilots claim wins in the final two matches.
