SAN MATEO, Calif. -- The West Coast Conference announced on Monday the All-Academic First Team for the 2020-21 spring season, with eight Pilots earning honorable mention: Gabi Brummett, Emily Collier, Taryn Ries, Jamie Rita, MJ Roe, Ellie Walker, Elliott Winkelmann and Madison Zamora.
The WCC All-Academic Team consists of student-athletes who excelled both on the field and in the classroom. In order to be considered for the squad, a player must have maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.20 while also performing as a key contributor for their team.
Brummett was one of only four Pilots to start and play in all 10 matches this year for Portland. She notched two assists on the year, the first coming against the Oregon State Beavers in the season opener on Feb. 10 and the second coming against the San Diego Toreros on Mar. 27.
Collier was a key player off the bench for Portland, appearing in all 10 games. She earned an assist against Oregon State.
Ries was arguably the best player for the Pilots this season, earning All-WCC First Team recognition for her play. She scored five goals this season, including a hat trick against Oregon State and a brace against the Pacific Tigers on Mar. 6. She was also twice named WCC Player of the Week.
Rita played in all 10 matches for Portland and started in nine. She put one game-winner under her belt for this season, scoring a goal against the Beavers to give the Pilots the win.
Roe also had one goal to her name for the 2020-21 spring season as well as an assist. She scored in Portland's match against San Diego and also tallied an assist against Oregon State.
Walker was a mainstay on defense for the Pilots, helping guide the squad to five straight shutouts for the first time since 2010. She also added an assist against Oregon State earlier this year.
Winkelmann was another key defender for Portland, playing and starting in all 10 matches. She notched her only assist of the year against the Beavers. She garnered All-WCCÂ Honorable Mention recognition this year as well.
Finally, Zamora was the goalkeeper for the Pilots during their streak of five shutouts in a row. She was tops in the WCC in fewest goals against (five) and lowest goals-against average (0.65) and second in save percentage (.848).
