PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland Pilots women's soccer coach Michelle French has announced the addition of two new recruits to the 2021 roster: Colby Wilson and Nyota Katembo. Wilson joins as a senior with two years of eligibility while Katembo comes in as a true freshman.
Wilson comes to The Bluff after transferring from Eastern Washington. Last season, Wilson was named to the All-Big Sky Second Team as a defender after starting in all 11 games for the Eagles. The California native also notched the game-winning goal against Portland State on March 12 and an assist again against the Vikings the following match on March 14.
"I chose UP because I wanted to be a part of something special," Wilson said. "UP provided me with the best opportunity to pursue both my academic and athletic endeavors. I love the culture and know that it will push me to be the best version of myself."
Katembo joins the Pilots by way of Montreal, Quebec. Katembo played with regional squad Team Quebec from 2015 to 2018 and also with two club teams: FC Laval (2020) and AS Blainville (2021).
"I chose UP because I believe that the staff and the soccer program can help me reach my full potential and biggest goals as an athlete," Katembo said. "I also felt that the culture and the community at UP was matching with the person that I aspire to be."
The Pilots bring back all but four players from the 2020-21 roster for the upcoming season. Last spring, the Pilots finished 3-4-3 and had five players earn All-WCC honors. They will play an exhibition match against Bellevue College on Aug. 13 before starting their regular season against the Utah Utes on the road. The match against the Utes will take place on Thursday, Aug. 19.
