PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland Pilots men's soccer goalkeeper George Tasouris was named on Thursday to the MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List for the 2021 season. He is the first Pilot since Rey Ortiz in 2019 to be named to the list.
Tasouris is a newcomer to the Pilots this season after spending the past three seasons between the sticks for the Grand Canyon Antelopes. He was one of the most highly sought-after graduate transfers in the country after winning WAC Defensive Player of the Year this past season. During the 2020-21 regular season, Tasouris allowed just six goals and posted a goals-against average of 0.86. He earned All-WAC First Team honors last season.
The Cyprus native was one of the best goalkeepers in the WAC right from the start of his career. During his first year in goal with the Lopes, Tasouris ranked second in the nation and tops in the WAC in save percentage (.860). He was named to the All-WAC Second Team, the All-WAC Freshman Team and earned WAC Tournament MVP after recording 22 saves and helping GCU earn three consecutive shutout victories. The following season, Tasouris earned All-WAC Honorable Mention recognition and was the WAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year.
The Pilots officially open their regular season tonight against the Air Force Falcons. Kickoff is slated for 7 p.m. at Merlo Field. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video.Â
