PORTLAND, Ore -- Portland held Arizona State scoreless and cruised to a 3-0 shutout win on Saturday, advancing to the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2013. The win also improves their record to 12-4-4 on the year.
How it Happened
- Portland started the scoring when Ruby Settle notched her second goal of the season in the 57th minute, assisted by Isabella Yakel and Keeley Dockter.
- The Pilots took a 2-0 lead on a goal from Nedya Sawan -- her fifth goal of the season -- in the 76th minute, assisted by Selma Licina.
- Portland went ahead 3-0 on Licina's 78th-minute goal, her first of the season and her career. Sawan assisted the goal. The 3-0 score held to the finish.
Game Notes
- The Pilots win in the playoffs for the first time since 2013.
- The win also gives Portland 12 on the year, which is the most since 2013.
- Licina's goal was the first of her Pilot career after four years on The Bluff.
- Settle's goal was also the first by a freshman in the playoffs since Danica Evans in 2013.
- This is the 11th shutout of the year for Portland, the most since 2010.
- For goalkeeper Bre Norris, her 11 shutouts are the most by a single Pilot goalkeeper since Kelsey Davis in 2009.
- This is the second game this season the Pilots have won by three goals or more.
- It's also the biggest win by scoring margin against a Pac-12 opponent since 2018, when they beat Oregon State 3-0.
