PORTLAND, Ore. -- Alex Fowler scored 27 points and set the career rebounding mark for Pilots who played Division I basketball to help lead the Portland Pilots (6-5) over the Portland State Vikings 71-56 at home Saturday.
Fowler added nine rebounds and two steals to her 27-point game to lead the Pilots. Haylee Andrews helped out with a season-high 15 points, four assists and two steals and Maisie Burnham chipped in with 10 points, six rebounds and two steals.
Portland collected 32 rebounds in Saturday's game compared to Portland State's 31, led by Fowler's nine boards.
Portland's defense held Portland State to only 35.7 percent shooting from the field, including 27.8 percent from beyond the arc.
How It Happened
Portland entered the second quarter tied at 10-10 after a tightly contested first period. Portland did most of its first quarter damage in the paint, scoring all 10 points close to the basket.
The Pilots then started off the second quarter by going on a 10-0 run, highlighted by a three from Emme Shearer, to take a 20-10 lead. The Pilots proceeded to tack on two points to that lead and enjoyed a 33-21 advantage heading into halftime.
Portland continued to preserve its halftime lead despite a pushy by the Vikings to cut into that lead. But the Pilots still entered the fourth quarter with a 55-40 edge. They would close it out 71-56.
