How It Happened
After falling behind 20-19, Portland went on a 10-0 run with 10:23 left in the first half, culminating in a bucket from Gorosito, to take a 29-20 lead. The Pilots then added five points to that lead by the end of the period and entered halftime with a 44-30 advantage. Portland did most of its first half damage in the paint, scoring 30 of its 44 points close to the basket.
Following intermission, Portland kept widening that lead, expanding it to 81-64 before going on a 5-0 run to grow the lead to 86-64 with 1:11 to go in the contest. The Fightin' Hawks narrowed the margin somewhat before the game was over, but the Pilots still cruised the rest of the way for the 90-69 win. Portland got a boost from its bench in the period, as non-starters accounted for 15 of its 46 total points.
