PORTLAND, Ore. – University of Portland head men's tennis coach Aaron Gross has announced that Fabian Gusic (Hanover, Germany) has signed a National Letter of Intent and will join the Pilots as a freshman next fall.
Gusic has been ranked as high as No. 8 in Germany for juniors and is currently 250 in the German open rankings.
"We are really excited to have Fabian join us next fall," Gross said. "Julien Penzlin has been awesome for us and had actually played a little bit of doubles with Fabian and the juniors. I think Fabian will be a great fit at Portland just as Julien has been. Germany has one of the best developmental systems and tournament systems in the world. He has gotten a lot of experience in Germany and I think there is still a lot more growth in him. We look forward to having him on campus in the fall. He has already started connecting with the guys through watching through the live stream system for our home matches we have set up at the tennis center. I can tell already he's going to be a great team guy."
Portland (3-5) is set to enter West Coast Conference play with a road match at BYU on Saturday. The Pilots were picked to finish third in the
WCC Preseason Poll.
