PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland Pilots (15-5, 2-1 WCC) earned their third win in a row with an 8-2 victory over the Seattle U Redhawks (6-11, 4-2 WAC). The win gives the Pilots their best record through 20 games since the 2012 season.
Brock Gillis earned his second win of the season after pitching five innings with two runs and three hits allowed and four strikeouts. Jarrod Billing took the loss for the Redhawks.
The Pilots were solid at the plate today, driving in eight runs off 12 hits. Sam Brown batted 4-for-5 with an RBI. Spencer Scott also went 3-for-4 with an RBI while Nich Klemp and Ty Saunders each went 2-for-4. Klemp also had two RBI's.
Portland did most of their scoring early, with their eight runs coming in the first four innings. They earned one run in the first off an RBI single from Brown to get things started. The Redhawks responded in the top of the second, however, with a pair of sacrifice flies that made it 2-1 Seattle U.
The Pilots didn't let the lead stand. Klemp and Saunders started things in the second inning, with each of them earning RBI singles. Gabe Skoro added another run on an RBI double, Jake Holcroft hit a sacrifice fly and Skoro scored on a wild pitch to make it 6-2 Portland.
No runs were scored in the third, but the Pilots restarted the scoring in the fourth inning. Klemp struck once again with a two-run single that put the Pilots up 8-2. After that, the Pilots just had to hold steady and not allow any runs. The bullpen for Portland fended off the Redhawks to earn the 8-2 win.
Next up, the Pilots will stay home for their three-game WCC series against the San Francisco Dons. They'll play on Friday, March 25 at 6 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for live stats and video options.
