Brett Gillis was dominant on the mound, allowing no runs and just two hits with 10 strikeouts in eight innings. Cole Kitchen was solid in the start for the Broncos, having just two runs and three hits counted against him and seven strikeouts. Joey Gartrell pitched the final inning for Portland.
It was a pitcher's duel most of the way, but the Pilots saw a sudden influx of offense towards the end, scoring nine runs across the final five innings. Henry Muench was a star at the plate, going 2-for-5 with a home run and three RBI's. Briley Knight also hit a home run while Nich Klemp went 1-for-4 with two RBI's.
No runs were scored for the first four innings, with the Pilots being the only team with a hit during that stretch. Muench's home run finally broke the scoring seal, with the right fielder going over the wall in left center to make it 1-0 Portland.
Klemp's RBI single in the sixth inning put the Pilots up 2-0, and the seventh inning saw them do more damage. First, Knight hit his solo homer to put the Pilots' lead at three. Then Portland scored twice off wild pitches to put the score at 5-0 Pilots.
Portland all but cemented their victory in the ninth inning. They scored four runs in their frame, starting with an RBI single from Spencer Scott. Klemp then hit a sac fly to bring in one more run before Muench scored two with a single. The Pilots cruised to a 9-0 victory.
