PORTLAND, Ore. -- Despite playing down a player, the Portland Pilots (5-0-3) battled the No. 24 Washington Huskies to a 1-1 draw at Merlo. The Pilots are unbeaten through their first eight games for the first time since 2010.
How it Happened
- Portland started the scoring when Nedya Sawan recorded her third goal of the season in the 25th minute, assisted by Colby Wilson and Keeley Dockter.
- Goalkeeper Bre Norris was given a red card in the 54th minute, putting the Pilots down a player for the rest of the match. Abby Pressnell earned the first minutes of her career in Norris's stead.
- The Huskies evened the match on a goal from Hailey Still in the 66th minute. The 1-1 score held to the end of the game.
Game Notes
- Portland's one red card was the first of the year.
- The Pilots are still unbeaten through their first eight games for the first time since 2010.
- Portland, however, had their shutout streak snapped at six games. It was their longest such streak since 2010 and the first time they'd posted six shutouts in their first seven games since 2000.
- Sawan now leads the Pilots in both goals (3) and points (7).
- Freshman Pressnell saw minutes for the first time in her career, recording six saves.
Portland Head Coach Michelle French on the Draw
"I think you were to ask the players how "they're feeling" I think they would say exceptionally fatigued. We had to give a lot in our Thursday game and to get a ranked opponent that's coming in fresh and then we go down a man -- we've been asked (to do) a lot physically over the last four days. And for us to weather that storm and weather that attack, it was incredible for us to come out of this with a tie, and I think it was a deserved tie."
