PORTLAND, Ore. -- The Portland volleyball team fell 3-2 (18-25, 25-15, 23-25, 25-18, 5-15) to the Saint Mary's (CA) Gaels Wednesday at home at Chiles Center. The loss dropped Portland's record to 7-5 overall and 0-1 in WCC action.
The Pilots offense was led by Jayde Harris, who finished with 22 kills on the day while accumulating a hitting percentage of .45. Jayde was followed closely by freshman, Maui Robins, who had 11 kills on the day. Defensively, Portland had two players reach double figures in digs, Grace Zilbert who had 17 and Noelani Helm who had 12.

How It Happened
SET 1 | The Pilots fell behind early, losing a tough first set 25-18. Portland trailed by as many as 11 points as Saint Mary's (CA) grabbed the advantage for good at 2-1 in a set that was tied up just once before the Gaels took control.
SET 2 | Portland fired back from a first-set loss to take the second set 25-15, tying the match at 1-1. The Pilots grabbed control of the set lead early on at 5-4 and held the lead the rest of the way. Portland opened its biggest lead, 10 points, to close out the set, collecting 15 kills while only notching two attack errors.
SET 3 | Portland dropped the third set, putting the Pilots in a 2-1 hole. The Pilots couldn't hang on in a back-and-forth battle, losing 25-23 in a set that featured seven lead changes and was tied nine times. Neither team had a lead of more than four points along the way.
SET 4 | Portland then responded to secure the fourth set 25-18 to force a fifth set. The Pilots scored first and never trailed in the set to earn the victory. Portland finished up the stanza on a strong note, claiming its biggest lead, seven points, to finish off the set, collecting 15 kills in the process.
SET 5 | Portland was on the wrong side of a back-and-forth match, winning the second and fourth sets, but losing the first, third and fifth, which they dropped by the score of 15-5, to fall in the match. The Pilots lost the first point and fought from behind the rest of the way.
