SAN MATEO, Calif. – The Portland Pilots swept the men's soccer WCC Player of the Week awards this week, with Gurman Sangha winning offensive player of the week and Kevin Bonilla winning defensive player of the week.
Sangha's win is the second of his career. He earned it after scoring one goal – the official game-winner in Portland's 5-0 drubbing of the Cal Poly Mustangs – and earning three assists, with all assists coming against the No. 21/10 Indiana Hoosiers. Sangha's three assists against the Hoosiers were the most for a Pilot against a Division I opponent since Rey Ortiz in 2017.
Bonilla, meanwhile, played the second most minutes of any Pilot defender and also earned an assist in the Cal Poly matchup, his first point of the year. Bonilla started in both matches for the Pilots, specifically helping Portland earn their first shutout of the year. It's also the second time Bonilla has won the award.
The Pilots are unbeaten through their first three games for the first time since 2018, a year they started unbeaten through their first 13 games. Next up, they're taking on the No. 4 UCLA Bruins in Portland at Merlo Field. The two teams will play on Saturday, Sept. 10 at 7 p.m. Check PortlandPilots.com for more information.
