PORTLAND, Ore. – Maxim Groysman will join the Portland men's tennis program this spring after transferring from UT-San Antonio. Groysman, a Bellevue, Wash. native, will join the Pilots as a sophomore in eligibility.
A five-star recruit according to TennisRecruiting.net, Groysman was ranked as high as No. 4 in the Pacific Northwest Region and won the 2021 Washington Sectionals. As a freshman at UTSA during the 2022 season he picked up five dual singles wins and went 8-8 in dual doubles matches.
"We are really excited to have Max join us this January," Portland head coach Aaron Gross said. "We feel good about our team but it's nice to have one more guy that I know could step in and help us right away. Players from the Pacific Northwest region have had great success with our program and Max was a very good junior player in the section. He had a good year of experience at UTSA, which I think will be very valuable for him going forward. Max is an incredibly hard worker and I know is committed to being as good a player as he can be. He will come right in and fit well with this group and have a great chance to do some cool things as a Pilot."
Groysman joins an experienced Pilot roster featuring six upperclassmen and two true freshmen. Fifth-year senior Sema Pankin is ranked No. 47 nationally and was recently named Preseason All-West Coast Conference. Eleftherios Neos and Issa Yoshida are also back as fifth-year seniors leading the way.
Portland opens its spring dual season this Friday at 4 p.m. with a neutral site match against Louisiana in Seattle, Wash. at the Nordstrom Tennis Center.
