PORTLAND, Ore. -- Haylee Andrews set the program record for assists in a game with 14 and Emme Shearer set a career high with 21 points as the Pilots dominated the San Francisco Dons 77-46. The Pilots extend their win streak to seven, their longest since the 2009-10 season.
The Pilots (12-5, 6-0) had two players score in double figures, led by Emme Shearer, who had 21 points, six rebounds and two steals. Alex Fowler added 11 points, eight rebounds and two blocks and Haylee Andrews added nine points, 14 assists and two steals.
Portland outrebounded San Francisco 44-34 in Saturday's game, led by a season-high nine boards from Keeley Frawley. The Pilots also collected 14 offensive rebounds and scored 14 second chance points. Portland's defense also held San Francisco to no made 3-pointers and just 27.1% shooting from the field.
How It Happened
After playing to a 6-6 tie early in the game, Portland went on a 5-0 run with 6:17 left in the first quarter, culminating in a bucket from Andrews, to take an 11-6 lead. The Pilots then lost some of that lead, but still entered the quarter break with a 17-13 advantage.
The Pilots kept its first quarter lead intact before going on an 11-0 run starting at the 2:06 mark in the second period, highlighted by a bucket from Liana Kaitu'u, to increase its lead to 36-23, a score that would hold until halftime. Portland was strong from deep in the period, knocking down three three-point shots to account for nine of its 19 points.
Portland continued to preserve its halftime lead before going on a 7-0 run, punctuated by a basket from Shearer, to expand its lead further to 43-25 with 6:36 to go in the third. Before the conclusion of the third period, the Dons had cut into that lead somewhat, but the Pilots still entered the fourth quarter with a 53-36 edge. Portland played well near the basket, scoring 14 of its 17 points in the paint.
The Pilots kept widening that lead, expanding it to 62-42 before going on a 7-0 run, finished off by Emily Sewell's jumper, to grow the lead to 69-42 with 3:11 to go in the contest. The Pilots kept expanding the margin and coasted the rest of the way for the 77-46 win.
